John Constantine "Johnny" Unitas

John Constantine "Johnny" Unitas (May 7, 1933 – September 11, 2002), nicknamed The Golden Arm and often called Johnny U, was a professional American football player in the 1950s through the 1970s, spending the majority of his career with the Baltimore Colts. He was a record-setting quarterback and the National Football League's most valuable player in 1959, 1964 and 1967. His record of throwing a touchdown pass in 47 consecutive games (between 1956-1960) remains unsurpassed as of 2008. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time.

The Greatest Game Ever Played
The 1958 National Football League Championship Game was played on December 28, 1958 at Yankee Stadium in New York City. It was the first ever National Football League (NFL) game to go into sudden death overtime. The final score was Baltimore Colts 23, New York Giants 17. The game has since become widely known as The Greatest Game Ever Played.[2] The game was the 26th annual NFL championship game.[3][4][5][6]

The game marked the beginning of the NFL's popularity surge, and eventual rise to the top of the United States sports market.[2] A major reason was that the game was televised across the nation by NBC. Baltimore receiver Raymond Berry recorded 12 receptions for 178 yards and a touchdown. His 12 receptions are a championship record that stands to this day.

A documentary on the game, "The Greatest Game Ever Played", premiered on ESPN on 2008-12-13. The program, hosted and narrated by Chris Berman, featured NFL Films footage mastered for HD and digitally colored, as well as discussions with players in the game and current football players and officials.
